It depends on what kind of omission is involved. Some kinds of omissions, such as the failure to list a return date on the summons and complaint, are jurisdictional and could result in the dismissal of the action (or refusal of the court to accept them for filing). Other kinds of omissions that are non-essential may or may not make any difference, depending largely on whether or not they are material (i.e., important to the total picture). An omitted minor asset of inconsequential value would generally not affect the result.
